Privacy Policy & Terms and Conditions
Last updated: 8 September 2026
Kombooch is a small, home-run kombucha kit project based in Utrecht, run by one person (Yasmine) as a side project — not a registered company. This page explains the terms you're agreeing to when you buy a kit, and what happens to your details when you order. Please read it before ordering.
Terms and Conditions
What Kombooch is
Kombooch is a hobby project, not a registered business. Kits are made in small batches, by hand, and sold locally in Utrecht — this is closer to a private sale between individuals (like buying second-hand on Marktplaats) than buying from a commercial company. By ordering, you're buying directly from me as an individual.
Ordering, payment & pick-up/delivery
- Orders are placed through the order form on this site. Submitting the form isn't a binding purchase — it's a request. I'll confirm by email whether I can fulfil your order on the requested date, and the order is only final once I've confirmed it.
- Payment is exchanged in person at pick-up or delivery, by cash or Tikkie.
- Delivery is only available within Utrecht city, at the cost shown at checkout. Free pick-up is available at the listed collection points for anyone outside that area.
- Dates and time slots are arranged directly with you after you order.
Replacement guarantee
If your first batch doesn't work out despite correct storage (warm, dark, dry, covered, away from other ferments), send me a photo of your storage spot and the mould/issue within 40 days after purchase, and I'll arrange a free replacement SCOBY via the same delivery method as your original order. This guarantee only applies to a SCOBY bought as part of a full kit — not to a SCOBY bought on its own.
Cancellations
You can cancel at any time before pick-up or delivery — just let me know. There's no cancellation fee, since payment only happens in person when you collect or receive your kit.
Changes to these terms
I may update this page from time to time as the project changes. The version live on the site at the time of your order is the one that applies.
Health, safety & liability
- What you receive is a brewing starter kit - a fresh SCOBY, mature starter liquid, jar and cover. This is NOT a finished, drinkable product. You are the one brewing, fermenting, and making the kombucha; I don't supply a ready-to-drink beverage.
- Kombucha is a fermented, live-culture product. Once you receive your kit, brewing, storing, bottling, flavouring, and consuming it is entirely your responsibility.
- I provide a brewing kit and instructions, but I have no control over your storage conditions, hygiene, brewing time, or how you handle the product after delivery — all of which affect the outcome and safety of what you brew.
- Never drink kombucha, at any stage, if you see ANY signs of mould — this includes fuzzy spots (white, green, black, or blue), unusual colours on the SCOBY or liquid surface, or a smell that's off rather than vinegary/tangy. If you're ever unsure, don't drink it — throw the batch out.
- Everything you use to brew must be properly sterilised. The jar your kit arrives in — holding the first batch of starter liquid and pellicle — is sterilised by me before it reaches you. From that point on, any jar, utensil, bottle, or other equipment you use for that batch or any future one is your responsibility to sterilise yourself. Contamination from unsterilised equipment is one of the main causes of mould, and it's on you to prevent it.
- By purchasing a kit, you accept full responsibility and liability for anything you brew from it, including any health effects, spoilage, or contamination that may occur during or after brewing.
- Kombucha naturally contains trace amounts of alcohol as a by-product of fermentation, and levels can rise with longer fermentation. It is not suitable for children.
- Do not drink kombucha if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or immunocompromised, unless you've checked with a doctor about your specific situation first. The same goes for any other health condition where you're unsure if it's safe for you.
- Do not drink kombucha, from this kit or any batch you brew, if you have or could have an allergy to any of its ingredients or components (also including tea, sugar, or anything you add when flavouring). If you're unsure whether you're allergic to something in it, check with a doctor before drinking.
- Before starting each new batch, check the pH of your starter liquid to make sure it's acidic enough to properly acidify the fresh tea. Starter that's too weak won't protect the batch early on, which increases the risk of contamination.
- When bottling (second fermentation), pressure builds up inside sealed bottles as the kombucha carbonates. Use bottles designed to hold pressure (swing-top/flip-top glass bottles), "burp" them periodically to release built-up gas, and never leave sealed bottles unchecked for long periods — over-pressurised bottles can crack or burst.
- Kombucha is acidic and can react with reactive metals. Only use glass, ceramic, or food-grade plastic for anything that touches the liquid or the SCOBY — avoid metal lids, spoons, or containers in direct contact at any stage.
- Nothing on this site or included with the kit is medical advice. Any statements about gut health, digestion, or wellbeing are general information, not a claim that kombucha treats, prevents, or cures any condition.
- To the fullest extent permitted by law, I'm not liable for any illness, injury, spoiled batches, or other loss arising from your use of the kit or consumption of anything you brew with it.

What details I collect
When you fill in the order form, I collect: your name, phone number, email address, and — if you choose delivery rather than pick-up — your street, house number and postcode. I also note your preferred delivery/pick-up date and which pick-up point you chose, if applicable.
What I use it for
Your details are used only to fulfil your order. After you order, I send a confirmation to your email, and then a separate logistical email to arrange the pick-up or delivery time. If I can't reach you by email, I'll follow up with a WhatsApp message or text to the phone number you gave. On the day itself, if I can't find you at the agreed pick-up spot, I also use that number to get in touch. I don't use your details for anything beyond this.
Where it's stored
Order confirmations and logistics are sent by email, and afterwards I archive these emails. I also keep a record of orders in a Google Sheets table. I don't use a CRM, marketing platform, or any dedicated customer database software. Your details aren't added to a mailing list, and I don't send marketing emails.
Who I share it with
I don't sell, rent, or share your details with any third party, beyond WhatsApp or SMS being used as the channel to reach you directly. The only exception would be if I were legally required to share details, for example a request from a law enforcement authority.
How long I keep it
Once an order is marked complete, your email address and phone number are automatically deleted from the Google Sheets table — the name and order details stay, but the contact details used to reach you don't. Order confirmation and logistics emails themselves stay archived in my inbox.
Cookies and the website itself
This website doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies.
Your rights
You can ask me at any time to see what details I hold about you, to correct them, or to have them deleted (once any active order or guarantee period is resolved). Just email yasmine@kombooch.nl.
